I did a lot of research on toaster ovens before buying. I wanted a toaster and my wife wanted something that could toast sandwiches as well. Well this does both and so much more. I never wrote a review before but I thought I would write one now just to help people out that are looking and very picky like I am.
This toaster oven is spacious if you're looking for a pan to use inside this I found a 12x12x3 cake pan fits perfectly.
I originally bought it at Walmart for $29.94 + tax + shipping = $44 but they ended up never shipping the product after a week so I canceled and found Amazon had it that day for $29.99 + free shipping (my luck day). I would have happily paid $45 for this either way.
After reading the 80 or so reviews at Walmart, the reviews on Amazon, and various other websites I concluded the following: All toaster ovens are made in China, meaning they will break sooner or later even if the $249 at Macy's. If your lucky it will be later. After looking for a long time and various brands I could not find one toaster oven that was not made in China so I ruled that out of my decision making. I want it to last so I ruled out anything that had electronic controls since they are more likely to break, keep it simple purely mechanical. That left my choices pretty slim. All the other toasters (Black and Decker, Delonghi, Oster, etc..) had quite a few reviews about uneven toasting. Which is important to me since I was originally buying this mostly to toast.
I really couldn't find too many people saying anything bad about this toaster either besides the "Toast" setting is hard to see. I didn't think it's too difficult to see its in Red maybe because it blends in with the black and doesn't stick out as much as the white text does. If you read the instructions it even tells you where to find the toast setting and how to use it. Turn timer past 10min mark and then back to the light toast or dark toast setting and put the oven temperature to Toast (turns on both top and bottom burners at high heat).
Also, all toaster ovens will make a smell when first turning ON. It even explains that in the manual. Turn heat setting to Toast and put timer on Always On with all the trays inside for 15 minutes and then turn OFF. It will smell bad so be prepared this is normal. I would have done this outside or in my garage if I knew it was going to make such a bad smell (like burning tires).
After that I was ready to put this bad boy to use. I made some toast at the light toast setting following directions and it came out perfectly. The next day we broiled some fish in the oven using a small cake pan covered in foil and then near the end took the foil off and put on Toast setting to get the top of the fish a little crispy.
This oven does goto 450 degrees so be careful. The oven sides, top, and back will get HOT. This is common with all toaster ovens. I read some complaints about the rack not sliding out when you open the door, but a pair of tongs or oven mitt solves that problem.
We won't be using our big electric oven any more. We are just 2 people and there is plenty of room in this toaster oven to make enough food for the two of us.
Last, all my kitchen appliances and counter tops are black and this blends in nicely. It looks stylish to me and I don't mind leaving it out all the time.
Amazon shipped this product the next day and I ended up getting it 3 days earlier than expected delivery date. Don't waste your time with Walmart they are just expensive after taxes and shipping and you will be lucky to even get it. Just pay the extra dollar and get it from Amazon.

The door on this toaster over is spring loaded, so it slams shut on your hand when you try to take something out of it. My son badly burned his hand using it. The only way to avoid this is to prop it up on something so the door can open far enough to "catch" and stay open.

Calphalon LRS1805P Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 16-Inch Roaster with Nonstick Roasting Rack Review

Calphalon LRS1805P Contemporary Stainless Special-Value 16-Inch Roaster with Nonstick Roasting Rack
Average Reviews:

I purchased this pan to tackle a prime rib roast for Christmas dinner. The pan itself is very heavy, solid and distrubutes the heat well. One thing I do not like about other roasting pans that I have purchased is sometimes the pan juices seem to burn in the oven which results in no "pan goodness" to make gravy with. I have used this pan multiple times and never had that issue- the bits and pieces will brown, but do not get a burned flavor. I attribute this to the construction of the pan and the heaviness of the weight. I would give the pan a solid 5 stars, but the rack that comes with this pan immediately started peeling and rusting even though I ran it in the dishwasher and promptly removed it. So what is a girl to do?
I bought the William Bounds silicon roasting rack (from Amazon) and now use this with my pan. I could have purchased a replacement rack for $19 or paid shipping and handling to get a replacement rack through the warranty, but I have been very impressed with the William Bounds rack and it fits perfectly in the pan. Clean up is a snap- both pieces go right in the dishwasher and come out looking as if I just pulled them out of the box for the first time. Plus, the WB rack has a slightly smaller grid so even on the coldest of days I can have familiy over (about 20 people) and still serve roasted chicken breasts with baked potatoes and salad in a snap.

amazon.com sells the EXACT SAME rack under the WearEver brand at half the price. I wanted to compare the two so I ordered both. Now I know and so do you. Otherwise the rack is fine. Nonstick coating is nice. The dimensions are actual 16.5" x 11.5". It fits into a half sheet baking pan with a little room to spare.

Black & Decker TRO490W Toast-R-Oven Classic 4-Slice Countertop Oven, White Review

Looks well constructed, nice design and backed by what I thought was a good brand name. I unpacked the first one and the handle fell off (glued to glass door with a heat resistant glue.) I exchanged it for another one. The timer would not turn off. Regardless of the setting, the timer would tick down to the "light" toast setting and stop. It could not automatically turn off. The case of the toaster also gets extremely hot, and the entire unit emits a chemical/plastic smell, which may go away with time. Further research indicated that the unit did not appear to be UL listed. I returned it to the store within 24 hours. The customer service department indicated they get many returned. Avoid.

With 1200 watts of power, this versatile countertop toaster oven can toast up to four slices of bread at a time, as well as bake, broil, and reheat a variety of foods quickly and easily. Three simple-to-use control knobs allow for choosing the function; setting the 30-minute auto-off timer; and setting the temperature up to 450 degrees F--great for cooking crispy-crust pizza, side dishes, casseroles, muffins, and more. The oven features two rack positions and can accommodate a 9-inch pizza. When the door opens, the dual-position rack advances for easy access. Other highlights include a 3/8-cubic-foot capacity, a see-through door for checking on food at a glance, a generous stay-cool door handle, and a sleek design that will nicely accommodate any kitchen decor. Its slide-out crumb tray makes cleanup a snap, and a broil rack and bake pan come included. The toaster oven/broiler measures 14-1/4 by 18 by 11-1/2 inches.

Proctor Silex 22608Y Cool-Wall Toaster Review

Proctor Silex 22608Y Cool-Wall Toaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've tried several toasters that were substantially more expensive and have determined that this basic, no frills Proctor Silex does a much better job of toasting bread. In fact I've done lots of research and have learned that all of the button functions on more expensive toasters are actually not necessary. For example: Cancel Button - not necessary, you simply lift up the lever to stop the toasting. Defrost Button - not necessary, all it does is lengthen the toasting time, so all you need to do is turn up the shade selector which does the exact same thing. Reheat Button - not necessary, just turn down the shade selector to the light setting and it will warm previously toasted bread without over-browning it. Bagel Button - there are 2 types of bagel functions out there, one toasts just one side of the bagel (which I don't like), and the other type toasts both sides and extends the toasting time (my preference). So for a bagel just turn up the shade selector which will extend the toasting time.

Having said all of this, I highly recommend the Proctor Silex 22608. It toasts bread evenly, and when using 2 slices, both sides of the bread are fairly uniform. It's versatile too as the slots adjust well for thin bread, thicker bread, english muffins, small bagels, and even larger bagels fit easily. Another nice feature is that it uses just 1 moving guide in each slot to keep the bread vertical. As a result the bread is not pinched together tightly between 2 metal guides so there are less grooves and white lines on the sides of the bread when it's done. It almost looks like it was done in a toaster oven. And the chrome cabinet with black side trim looks great on the kitchen counter.
I read where Consumer Reports rated this toaster #3 and I can see why. So save your money and get back to basics with the Proctor Silex 22608 !

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler Review

Cuisinart GR-4N 5-in-1 Griddler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought a G4 Griddler from Amazon in 2005, and used it a couple of times a week (at least) until it had to be put out to pasture in 2010 due to failure of the non-stick coating on the plates. (The coating started to bubble and peel, and no one wants that in their food...) I loved it. (See my review of the Cuisinart GR-4 Griddler Stainless-Steel 4-in-1 Grill/Griddle and Panini Press) It was still working great, but replacement plates were not available.
I was elated when offered the opportunity to review its smarter younger brother, the GR-4NAM Griddler. I could hardly wait for it to get here and run it through its paces.
At first glance, the GR-4NAM looks virtually identical to the G4. However, closer inspection reveals that it has been totally redesigned, and for the better.
Improvement: The grease catcher used to be a little cup that had to be set under a spout on the side of the bottom plate. If it was positioned incorrectly, (or forgotten about), greased dripped out on the counter. The grease catcher is now integrated into the Griddler as a drawer-like device that can be pulled out to clean, and then put back in place for the next use.
Improvement: The original G4 had two sets of plates - one flat set, one ridged set (for paninis). There is now one reversible set of plates (ridged on one side, flat on the other), and therefore no need to find a storage place for the plates not in use. The new plates have a good substantial weight. I don't have the old ones here for comparison, but the quality of the plates certainly was not cheapened.
Improvement: It used to be a little tricky to put the plates in place and to remove them. There was also a difference between the top plate and the bottom, so you had to be careful not to try to put them in the wrong way. The plates now have an identical shape, so they are interchangeable, and the release buttons activate a spring-loaded mechanism that pops the plate loose for easy removal. Now, to see how it cooks: The Griddler takes about as long to warm up as a good-quality waffle iron. Just when you start to get impatient with it, it's ready.
The first thing that I cooked was a no-no in the eyes of Cuisinart - a bone-in, skin-on leg and thigh chicken quarter. Too thick, they say. HA! says I, because I am a bit of an anarchist. I marinated the chicken in olive oil and rosemary, heated the Griddler to Medium. I cooked it on the panini plates because I love those little fake barbeque stripes across my food. It worked just fine. (I should have taken a picture, it came out looking beautiful. But I was hungry.)
Word of warning: Do not cook thick or fatty meat on High - you will get grease spatters all over the place. Medium works just fine in such instances.
I discovered from my old Griddler that when cooking meat it's best to turn off the heat before it's done, and let it finish cooking with the residual heat in the plates. That way the meat does not get overdone.
For clean-up, I let the plates cool down, and then put a wet paper towel across the bottom plate and close the lid and let it sit for a while. The dampness softens anything that is stuck to the plates, and then it can be easily washed off with a sudsy sponge or dish wand.
Today for lunch, I made myself a sandwich with sliced sourdough bread, cooked sliced chicken breast, fresh grated parmesan cheese and dried basil. I followed the panini directions in the small cookbook that comes with the Griddler. Well, I sort of followed the directions... Cuisinart recommends brushing the outside of the sandwich with olive oil. I prefer to use melted butter on panini because it makes the sandwich crisper.
I preheated the Griddler on High, placed the sandwich inside, and applied light pressure for about 30 seconds, and then let it cook. The directions say to cook panini for about 4 -5 minutes, but my sandwich was ready to eat in 2 minutes. Maybe the butter makes the bread brown faster than olive oil.
In any case, it was beautiful - evenly browned, crunchy and delicious, and I did take a picture (see product images).
How durable will the GR-4NAM be? Good question. From everything that I can see so far, Cuisinart has only made the Griddler better. But time is the real test of quality. I will report back from time to time regarding durability.
Right now, I'd say this looks like an excellent buy.UPDATE, January 2011:
The Griddler is still in great shape. Granted, I am not using it as frequently as I did my original one, but that's because there are fewer mouths to feed in my household now than there used to be. I have no cautionary tales to add to the review. Hmmm... I think I'll go make a grilled cheese sandwich....

KitchenAid Convection Countertop Oven Review

KitchenAid Convection Countertop Oven

Great size. Great controls. Originally we had the top-ranked Cuisinart brand with digital controls that did NOT turn itself off. With kids in the house it was a safety issue. Unsurprisingly, that other oven melted its own power cable when it didn't turn itself off. THIS unit is just as large, has great controls AND turns itself off.
The toaster function works very well, and the settings are accurate: medium is medium, etc. We've also noticed that this convection oven is SO MUCH Quieter than the other top-ranked model we owned.
Another GREAT function is the ability to clean the crumb pan FROM THE FRONT. Our last oven could only be cleaned by turning the oven around on the counter to access the crumb pan. On this oven the crumb pan can be pulled right out behind the front door.
It comes with two shelves in case you need them, and it also comes with a VERY STURDY broiler pan. We were surprised at the quality of the accessory pan.
So:
1) With kids in the house the auto-shutoff is a MUST-HAVE.
2) It is very easy to clean
3) Size is fantastic
4) Controls are good. Heat is even and accurate.
5) Pan accessories are high quality.

Very pleased with the quality. When it arrived, I was surprised at how large it is. Considered sending it back for that reason--Primarily I just want it to reheat single-serving meals (and NOT use a microwave). But then I thought it's not a bad idea to be able to use it for larger servings. I love it. The curved bottom is nice, it's easy to clean and pretty and shiny enough that I hung it in the kitchen.(Which works better than on a shelf as the curved bottom naturally keeps it from staying upright--the photo is deceiving in that regard). Definitely recommend this and all Cuisinart pots & pans.

31112 Toaster Oven Review

31112 Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have never had a toaster oven before so my review might affected by having nothing previous to compare to, but here goes:
I wanted a small, 2 slice toaster oven, because I am a 1 person family. There were only a couple choices on Amazon and the other choice seemed to be rated as too small by other buyers. So I chose this Proctor Silex(at that time)unrated model.
It takes up only a little more space on my counter than my old 2 slice toaster did. It is very mechanical in its operation. ("Tick..tick..tick..Ding!") I assume this oven is marketed more outside this country because none of the words around the dials are in English. I thought that amusing. There are little pictures of the functions and the temp settings in both F. and C. so no problems. We all read every word of our operating manuals, right?
This little oven will hold 2 generous slices of bread-I've done 3 slices of french bread at a time. No problem broiling open faced sandwiches with plenty of toppings. Only the fattest of sweet rolls or muffins may have to be split.
This oven has created the most evenly toasted bread I have had for ages. (My retired toaster was pretty old.) If it did nothing else it would be worth the bargain price I paid. I make mini pizzas on english muffins a lot and for this it works perfectly as well.
The upper and lower heating elements are encased in tubes, the lower one protected with perforated metal to reduce crumb burning, I assume.
Oh, and one thing that was never mentioned anywhere I tried to research this item before I bought it--it is 800 watts.
I am very happy with the little unit.

Black & Decker CTO7100B Toast-R-Oven Digital Rotisserie Convection Oven Review

Black and Decker CTO7100B Toast-R-Oven Digital Rotisserie Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This B&D oven makes outstanding rotisserie meats and is a big leap in value over a traditional toaster oven, with one significant drawback: it's a very mediocre toaster. In fairness, nowhere on the packaging does this product say "toaster" -- it's simply described as a convection rotisserie oven. But if you're considering an upgrade over a standard toaster oven like I was, you're probably hoping for the best of all worlds: rotisserie, convection oven, and toaster. It nails the first two, but is merely acceptable on the third.
Rotisserie: It takes a few tries to get a feel for the timing, but once you do, you get really outstanding roasts and restaurant-quality rotisserie chicken. The rotisserie keeps juices circulating inside, so the meat doesn't dry out like when you bake it the standard way. Some have noted that it isn't really big enough for chicken, and it can be a squeeze. But if you tie the legs with cooking twine (which you should do anyway, to prevent burning), you can cook a 4-1/2 to 5 pound bird, and anything smaller is easy (the manual suggests 3-1/2 as a limit, but you can push that a bit). Pork and beef roasts are ridiculously easy -- just stab it through with the skewer and put it in -- and absolutely delicious. I'm surprised at those who say the rotisserie isn't worth it, because to me, it's the best thing about this device. Well worth the upgrade over a non-rotisserie convection oven.
Convection oven: If you're not interested in the rotisserie, you can get a good non-rotisserie convection oven for $30-$40 less. That's still $30-$40 more than a standard toaster oven, but it's worth it. A standard toaster oven isn't really for baking. It's good for reheating or melting cheese on something, but that's about it. A good convection oven like this one can be used for anything you do in a normal oven. Lasagnas (in a 9x9 pan), breads, pizzas (up to 12-inch), desserts, etc. -- all of these can be done here because the oven regulates its temperature reliably. Furthermore, the smaller size and the convection fan (which circulates the air to regulate temperature and speed cooking slightly) mean less energy. Why use a giant oven to cook a small dish? Pre-heating is quicker, cooking times are shorter, and the food is just as good. The broiler also works well.
Toaster: Again, B&D doesn't promote this as a toaster, though it does have a toaster setting. It toasts pretty evenly (no worse than a standard toaster oven on that front), but the larger size of the oven (compared to a toaster) means it takes a long time, and the toast tends to dry out. You can tinker with the settings a bit, and if you position the rack close to the heating element, it turns out fine, but expect it to take a few minutes longer than a normal toaster or toaster oven. This may also mean that you're giving back some of the energy you save by using it as an oven.
Two other drawbacks to be aware of: (1) it takes a fair amount of cabinet space, since it is a few inches wider, deeper, and taller than most toaster ovens, and (2) the glass on the front is not double-layered, and thus gets very hot -- be careful if you're using it with small children around.
Beyond that, this is a solid product. After six months of use, I'm happy I bought it, and am really glad to have another way to cook outstanding meat during the winter months when it's too cold to grill.

Presto 03430 Pizzazz Pizza Oven Review

Presto 03430 Pizzazz Pizza Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First of all it's not perfect. The non-stick coating is thin on the pan, and can get scratched off easy. Plus, there's no easy way to clean off the brown, spots you get from baking. All that aside, this is a great device if you like homemade, and frozen varieties of pizza.
I used to try all kinds of tricks to get a frozen pizza to taste good. I'd microwave them partially first, I'd bake them directly on the oven rack; I'd try greasing the pan, or not greasing it. I had some success with these techniques, but it was a lot of work. This oven does the job, and gets the pizza cooked the way you want it. An easy flip switch on the top, can turn the heat on both sides, just the top, or just the bottom. You control the crispness, and the degree of browning on your pizza.
This oven is also great for baking those commercial, "take and bake" pizzas, from shops like Pappa Murphy's. Further, its better for reheating leftover pizzeria pizza than your microwave. What more can you want? I wanted just one thing, a 14" model. While most frozen pizza is 12" or smaller, you cannot heat one any larger. One final caution, rising crust pizzas will sometimes bubble, or rise into the top-heating element. It's a good idea to stay in the general area while the pizza is cooking, or it can potentially start a fire.

Hamilton Beach Brands Inc Lg Toaster Oven/Broiler 31197 Toaster Oven/Broiler Review

Hamilton Beach Brands Inc Lg Toaster Oven/Broiler 31197 Toaster Oven/Broiler

(More customer reviews)
I had one of these for 7 years and it was great. Eventually the lower elements stopped working. I was surprised to learn that Hamilton Beach doesn't offer replacement parts or repair locations. Local appliance repair people make expensive household calls only and couldn't find a tinkerer. So after researching other ovens, I decided to get another Hamilton beach anyway because of it's great dimensions, length of timer, simplicity of controls, power, price etc. I get the new one and the door is on crooked. Also, the front edge screws were in crooked and not in all the way. The oven is designed to have some space between the front glass and the frame but I'm talking about a crooked door with 1/2 inch difference from left to right that I could look down through to the inside of the oven without opening the door. My old one, which I still had to compare to, had nothing of the sort. And the last thing I wanted was chipping an expensive enameled cast iron pot on a cheap screw. I called up Hamilton Beach and told them about it and they ran me around for two weeks. They claimed that the oven worked fine despite this according to their engineers so basically they weren't going to take the oven back. If the outside was made this way then who knows if the next one was going to be the same and how well it was made inside. Thank goodness for Amazon's return policy. I got the Wolfgang Puck 42L instead and found a more spacious spot. The Wolfgang reaches 350 degrees on convection and 450 degrees on regular bake, has good height for pots, has simple controls, more space to handle a large chicken on a rotisserie, and a 2 hour or continuous timer. It has more elements on the top for broiling. If I need anything higher temp, which is rare, I'll use my gas oven as a back up. Goodbye to my good old Hamilton Beach; now E-cycled. Good riddens to the new one. Hello to the Wolfgang Puck 42L and not looking back.

Cuisinart GreenGourmet 11-Inch Square Grill Pan Review

Cuisinart GreenGourmet 11-Inch Square Grill Pan
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Since my old outdoor grill was recently retired, & this is not the time of the year to purchase a new one, I decided to buy this pan instead. I have to say that it does as good a job at grilling meat as my gas barbeque did. It grills vegetables & fish perfectly. Overall, I am very pleased with this item & would highly recommend it.

Cook up delicious, healthy meals for your family with the environmentally minded Cuisinart Green Gourmet Hard Anodized 11-inch square grill pan, featuring Cuisnart's new energy-efficient and eco-friendly Cermica nonstick surface. But more than just reducing your carbon footprint, this new nonstick coating allows for easy food release and the ability to use less fat while cooking as well as for use in the oven for browning.
This compact 11-inch square griddle is great for quick breakfasts and on-the-go lunch sandwiches. This pan also delivers superior heat conductivity, requiring less energy to achieve the desired cooking temperature. Harder than stainless steel, the skillet's hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution. Additionally, the securely riveted stay-cool steel handle--featuring a V-shaped base so that heat dissipates--is manufactured using 70 percent recycled stainless steel and is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, so food can be browned on the stovetop then transferred to the oven to finish cooking.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet cookware is designed with an exclusive Cuisinart Ceramica nonstick surface, which features a petroleum-free, ceramic-based coating that is applied at a temperature one half that of traditional nonsticks. The coating does not contain PTFE and PFOA, substances often used in nonstick cookware that have raised health concerns over the years. It was also developed using manufacturing techniques that reduce harmful carbon emissions by consuming less energy. The coating is also water-based, unlike other nonstick coatings on the market, which are solvent-based. In addition, Cuisinart's cookware has a scratch-resistant nonstick surface that won't peel off. The new cookware conforms to FDA and European RoHS standards for environmentally sound products.
This pan should be hand-washed with a mild detergent, and it carries a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Cuisinart also gets some green cred from the packaging, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials and is printed using 100 percent biodegradable soy ink. --Agen G.N. DeLonghi EO2060 6-Slice Stainless Toaster Oven Broiler Review

DeLonghi EO2060 6-Slice Stainless Toaster Oven Broiler
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As my husband works a 10+ hour shift, he wanted to do more healthy cooking than available by nuking food. Having other DeLonghi products, the EO2060 seemed an attractive "counter-top oven" solution. His first attempt to cook foil-wrapped fish fillets found the following problems: untouchable, burning hot top, sides, and HANDLE. Reaching inside with plastic tongs, they began to melt. Temperature gauge had weird numbering, with only a dot after 390, making the placement of the desired 450 degrees setting only a guess. Timer worked only with toast setting, so a separate timer needed to be purchased. Fingerprint marks were immediately apparent and not easily removed. A call to DeLonghi Service resulted in their recommendation to return unit to place of purchase as the excessive heating problem was a probable defect. On the plus side, the fish did cook perfectly and the unit is very attractive.

Black & Decker Stainless Steel Toaster Oven Broiler - 4 Slice Review

Black and Decker Stainless Steel Toaster Oven Broiler - 4 Slice
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've owned 3 B&D toaster ovens over the years and they keep getting progressively worse. I use them for toast & bagels, and maybe reheat a slice of pizza now & then, so I don't need a large $70-100 appliance with a convection oven. It's for toast! First they got rid of the push button toast feature... where you set the toast setting with a dial light to dark.. then to toast you just press a button.. and when you open the door, the toaster shuts off.. nice. Now this this model they've gotten rid of the tray feature where when you open the door it pulls the tray out 1-2inches so it's easier to load, unload. Not only that... there's a very weak spring that allows the door to open fully until the handle rests on the counter... with the handle now resting on the counter underneath a HOT glass door, where exactly do I grab it to close?? After two days, I'm ready to toss it.
