Four Slice Toaster Oven with Timer Review

Four Slice Toaster Oven with Timer
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this toaster oven in early January and by the second week of September - after very moderate use - it had died. I used it to make toast most mornings and 1-2 times a week used the broiler or oven function for fries or things like tuna melts. One day when I turned it on there was a strange, chemical, burning smell and it just stopped working. My previous toaster oven (different brand) worked great for over a decade - wish I could replace it!

Toastmaster TTOB4 4-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Toastmaster TTOB4 4-Slice Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

I recently owned two Toastmaster products and both are now in the local landfill. One broke after 4 months, 4-slice toaster,
and is not covered under any warranty. One of the darkness knobs popped out and the darkness is uncontrollable??? Toastmaster ignored all emails sent to them about this one.
Their griddle product is horrible. After approxiamately 6 uses,
the griddle began cooking uneven. They acknowledged one of my emails but never followed through. It took 60 days of my time, for nothing.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. THIER LIMITED LIFETIME WARRANTIES ARE JUST PROMISES.

DeLonghi EO1251 6-Slice 1/2-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven, Black and Stainless Steel Review

DeLonghi EO1251 6-Slice 1/2-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven, Black and Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

This appliance works quite well both as an oven as well as a toaster but does not really cut cooking times by 40%. For example, the manual states 50 minutes for a baked potato. In actual experience that's about how long it took but it's also about the same amount of time as it takes in my conventional oven. That option uses more electricity, however, so it's a better value to use this one for small meals. The same thing goes for taquitos, pies, and similar snacks. They take a little less time than a conventional oven but nowhere near 40% less, though the convection cooking does make things a bit crisper when you're looking for that feature.
The smaller oven gets up to heat much faster than a full size one does, of course, saving some electricity that way too. It seems to have a cold spot near the glass door which is particularly noticable when cooking pies (which, by the way, are the only thing that seems to cook ~30% faster than normal). Rotating them about halfway through the cooking process resolves that problem for the most part.
The advertising states that it comes with a non-stick bake pan and a non-stick broil tray. The pan and tray are included but they are not non-stick. The interior coating, however, is except for the crumb tray. The variable temperature goes up to 450 which is sufficient for most applications. It broils well, toasts okay, and has a very quite and efficient convection motor.
The dial controls are cheap plastic so I'm not sure how long they'll last. I've only had it for a few weeks at this point and they're doing okay but I'm conscious about delicacy in handling them. It comes with two racks yet it's so small inside I've yet to find a combination of anything other than toast that allows me to use both of them. The advertising/picture makes it look much larger than it really is.
All in all I'm happy with the unit and at the Amazon discount/free shipping with the price too. There's no way I'd pay full "retail" price though... I'm also a little disappointed about the accuracy of the product descrition and the overall speed of cooking however. It is, without a doubt, a huge improvement over a conventional toaster oven.

Black & Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel Review

Black and Decker TRO700S 4-Slice Toast-R-Oven, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It's hard to really know what you're getting when you buy a toaster oven on-line, sight unseen. This is an appliance that gets used frequently, so it is a good idea to see it first-hand. I chose to buy this at a local appliance store that sells it cheaper than here. But unfortunately, I had to return it--TWICE.
I looked around at a number of convection toasters, and this one seemed to fit the bill--decent quality, attractive design, good crumb guards over the heating elements, nice size for cooking a variety of things, and the Black & Decker name. My previous Black & Decker toaster oven lasted me over 10 years, so I was partial to the brand. WAS.
My first test was to check out the convection feature. I clicked the convection switch--nothing happened. On-off-on-off-on... off. Nothing. I tried it again with the oven on/off and the toaster on/off. Still nothing. It was completely dead. I called up Black & Decker and told them about it, hoping there might be some trick to it. Nope--my unit was defective. I decided to try it anyway.
I put in a London broil and turned on the oven. It heated up reasonably fast and did a superb job. I never thought you could cook a steak so nicely in one of these toaster ovens (less time and less energy than a full oven). I was a little dismayed at how much heat is transferred to the outside (it's easy to burn yourself on that stainless steel), but I was willing to overlook that.
The next day, I brought it back to the store to get a replacement--I figured I had just hit a little bad luck. I had the clerk open the box and plug it in first, so I could see if the convection fan was working (just in case the whole shipment the store got was defective). It did. I was happy and walked off with my new unit.
The next day I decided to make some toast. I looked at the dials and realized I needed to read the instructions. The design is a little quirky, in that the oven temperature control doubles as a control to choose whether the oven or toaster features will be used. There's also a dial labeled "timer", but it's only used for the oven. Most toaster ovens I've seen in the past have one control to set the intensity (light, medium, dark) and another to turn it on. This uses one dial that turns on the toaster as you rotate it to the desired toasting intensity, and it should countdown (like the oven timer) until it reaches "off".
I turned the dial to 'medium', as suggested by the instructions, put in the toast, and walked away to do something else for a few minutes. When I came back in the room, the toast was burnt to a crisp and the dial was still on 'medium'--it didn't move at all. I turned it off... then turned it on. Yep, there's no ticking sound, as heard from the timer for the oven function. I played with the dial a little more and could coax it to tick for a second or two, but then it would stop. DEFECTIVE AGAIN.
Well, that's it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me (yep, that's the cliche Bush couldn't get right). I brought it back to the store and gave up. I decided my time was not worth toying with a $60 appliance. I'm going to spend more this time and get something that WORKS reliably, has good heat insulation, and logical controls.
So, here's what I didn't like about this unit:
1) Encountering TWO defects, one in each unit I tried. This is shameful, Black & Decker.
2) The controls don't feel like good quality. I also don't like the ticking sound (when it works). It's disturbing if you're trying to read the newspaper next to this thing.
3) The stainless steel exterior gets extremely hot. You can easily burn yourself on it, as well as anything nearby. My old cheap Black & Decker toaster oven got hot, but not this bad--and it cooled off fast, while this TRO700S model remains hot for a long while. This is just downright dangerous.
4) The door doesn't have any rubber cushioning--it is metal slamming up against metal. If I was going to keep this, I would apply some heat resistant rubber pieces to buffer the sound.
What I did like about it:
1) It cooks well and even.
2) It has decent crumb guards over the elements.
3) It's a nice size for what it can cook.
4) It is a good looking unit.
Unfortunately, my likes couldn't outweigh my dislikes. And the quality problems are just ridiculous. These are BASIC functions that should pass quality assurance tests, simple problems like an ON/OFF switch not working or a timer dial not turning should never leave the factory.
I contacted Black & Decker and complained about my experience. They recommended I buy another and that it "probably won't have any problems". I'm sorry to say that it will take a long while before I consider a Black & Decker ever again.

Aroma ABT-208S 4-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster Oven Review

Aroma ABT-208S 4-Slice Stainless Steel Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Got this as a gift for Christmas, and my wife and I are about to go dig our 10-year old Krups one out of the garage. About the only thing this one has going for it is that it looks fairly nice. The things about our Krups that we really miss on this one:
* On the Krups, you set one dial for how dark you want the toast, and push down a lever to tell it to start toasting. On this one, you have to set the oven temp to "Toast" then use the timer dial to make it go. This means that you have to remember/guess where on the dial results in the kind of toast you like.
* On the Krups, you could easily tell where the temperature was set. On this one, it's almost impossible to tell one end of the temperature dial form the other (it's pure black on black), so you often end up getting 150 degrees when you wanted 450, or vice versa. Because of this problem, you also often get 200 degrees when you want "toast", which means you end up with warm bread instead of toast. Very frustrating early in the morning.
* On the Krups, when you opened the door, two hooks automatically pulled the oven rack out an inch or two, meaning you didn't have to reach as far into a hot oven to retrieve your food/toast.
So, while it's not a HORRIBLE toaster, but it's pretty bad, and I'm busy looking for a good 4-slice toaster oven that's stainless steel (or similar) on the outside that includes the features I mentioned above. Suggestions, anyone?

This little toaster oven in a winner! My tiny studio apartment demands an oven with a small footprint and this one measures approx 15" X 10" x9". Toasts well, bakes well, broils well -- I've had no problems whatsoever, and have used mine for nearly 2 years now. I want to get one for my daughter and son-in-law but since I can't get Amazon's free shipping here I'm going to try locally. Too bad, this would be perfect for them!

31508 Toaster Oven Review

31508 Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Two months ago I bought the Hamilton Beach 31507 which I am told by HB is the same as this one, only without the stainless steel front. If you are looking for a toaster oven that does not take up much space yet holds a 9" cake pan, this is the one for you. It bakes, it broils, and voila it toasts evenly. You just have to experiment a little bit as to whether to choose the light toast icon or the dark icon. Just remember to turn the timer dial past 10 and then back to your toast setting. We have baked and broiled chicken breasts and fish, have heated up vegetable filled croissants. Made open faced sandwiches. Everything came out perfectly. There are two slot heights for the rack, and the rack itself is configured to be used high or low. The slide out crumb pan is very convenient. The only negative is that the bake pan while sturdy seems to have a thin coating which I think will break down over time. If that happens I will just get another bake pan. One thing to look out for when searching for a toaster oven is how hot the outside gets. They all get hot, especially on top and the glass door, but some OTHER BRANDS we tried got to the point of SIZZLING. The 31507 one does not get to that point, but I wonder if having a stainless steel front and top or not makes the difference.

KitchenAid KCO1005OB 1/2-Cubic-Foot 6-Slice Countertop Oven, Onyx Black
Average Reviews:

What a disappointment. I am a huge Kitchenaid fan and I can't believe the poor quality of this toaster oven. As others have said, the finish is poor...the paint is not smooth and is chipping off around the oven door straight out of the box. The stainless steel trim is rough and cheap looking; it seems poorly machined. As for the performance, toasting is totally aggravating since the top element gets MUCH hotter than the bottom. The timer is cheap and the "ticking" is annoying. When the timer ends, the bell is out of synch. There is no on/off switch; just the timer to control the oven. I expected MUCH more from a toaster oven in this price range. I was happier with my old Toastmaster that cost about $40 and lasted for years. You can do much better than this for considerably less money.

I owned a Delonghi before and it died of old age. I loved it and decided to get this one. 1. Description says it's red; it's black; 2. It only goes up to 390 degrees for baking; 3. The broiler pan doesn't sit on the rack; it has it's own slot. However, broiling time is greater than my last one; fat on steak never even sizzled. When you attempt to remove the broiling pan, as it isn't resting on anything, it tilts when you take it out and it could drop and injure someone, or if using a pot holder, it could catch fire; 4. I made toast and had to put it through twice and it burned part and the rest wasn't toasted. It is now being made in China and as with most things from there, it is very inferior. Too bad.

Black & Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven Review

Black and Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

I've had B&D toaster ovens in the past and they've always held up well, so when it came for a new one I mostly dismissed the negative comments by others and purchsed this model. Well - unfortunately the negatives reviews are correct. Toast made on the bottom shelf ends up burnt where directly above the heating element, and untoasted elsewhere. But far worse was the rude awakening I received on the 2 month anniversary of my purchase. My attempt to toast a bagel appeared more like a 4th of July celebration when the unit completely shorted, providing me with a nice light show. And not that I'd have any inclination to use it again but it's now dead.
I tried to contact the B&D service number provided with the manual and lo and behold the documented late and weekend hours are no longer valid, so I guess I'll now be spending my work day negotiating for a new unit as opposed to someone else's "repaired" unit. If they're this bad when new I can't imagine what a refurb would be like. And I can't imagine what I'll be paying in shipping charges. BE FOREWARNED!

Perfect as a second oven or as an energy-efficient alternative to turning on the full-size oven, this countertop appliance offers a large capacity with an extra-deep curved interior that can fit a 12-inch pizza or a casserole. Use the oven for convection baking (a fan circulates the heat), as well as broiling, toasting, and keeping foods warm until they're ready to be served. The unit features a quartz heating element and 1500 watts of power to ensure fast, professional results, plus it comes with a reversible chrome-plated broiling rack with upper and lower rack slots for added versatility. Three user-friendly control knobs make the oven simple to operate. The top knob adjusts the temperature up to 450 degrees F, the middle knob selects the function (convection bake, broil, toast, or keep warm), and the bottom knob allows for setting the timer up to 60 minutes or choosing continuous "on", as well as selecting the shade setting when toasting bread or bagels. Other highlights include a Perfect Broil system that maintains the set temperature, a see-through glass door, a convenient "ready" signal bell, a nonstick interior, and a slide-out crumb tray for quick cleanup. A baking pan comes included. The sleek-looking toaster oven measures approximately 20 by 16-2/7 by 12-3/5 inches.

Hamilton Beach 2-Slice Bagel Toaster Review

Hamilton Beach 2-Slice Bagel Toaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I am happy with this toaster. When I first bought it, I set the dial in the middle, inserted a piece of whole wheat bread, and it came out medium-toasted. It toasted evenly. So far I have only toasted 1 slice at a time. I tried using each slot. One time out of the four, the toast was ejected completely out of the toaster. I am hoping the spring will mellow out with time.
This toaster is billed as "automatic toast boost" but that seems to mean that the toast rises higher than other toasters. I am not sure if this is true and I wish it had a manual boost. Small pieces of bread do not stick up very high. I haven't tried a bagel but I can't imagine them sticking up as high as shown in the illustration.
For the price I think this is a very good toaster. It has a removable crumb tray. The slots seem good-sized and it grips the bread as you lower it. The bagel setting stops the center elements from heating. There is a little diagram by the slots to show you which way to insert your bagel. I haven't actually tried out any bagels.

I was reluctant to spend this much for a toaster, but after trying a less expensive one (a Krups, no less) and finding that it made extremely uneven toast, I decided to spend a little more. I exchanged it for this one, and so far, this one makes perfect toast; in fact, I've never seen toast so evenly browned. The defrost works great, too -- I tried it on frozen bread, without changing the 'brown' setting, and it came out looking just like the toast from regular/thawed bread. (Sorry, I don't toast my bagels, so I can't comment on that feature.) In short, this is the best toaster I've ever used, and well worth the money.

I bought this oven about a year ago and I use it several times a week. It's a little slower than a standard toaster, but that's always the case for toaster ovens, and it seems on par in its own arena. It's a good bit roomier than the Black&Decker ovens I had previously used, and it seems sturdier as well. Additionally, it doesn't cut off when the door is open, which I see as a feature, but some might dislike for safety reasons. Timer and power are consistent. The crumb tray is removable, and it comes with a single shelf, a pan, and a grille for the pan.

Sanyo SK-7W Space Saving Toaster Oven, White Review

Sanyo SK-7W Space Saving Toaster Oven, White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had this model for nearly two years now. It takes nearly twice as long to toast bread as a normal toaster, because it has energy saving quartz elements, which don't heat up as quickly. Since there is no temperature control, there is only one setting - really hot.
This could ruin your day if you just want to reheat something through, so here's a piece of advice: for things like frozen pies, pizza and reheating rolls, put them on the top shelf and turn the heating element knob to Bottom Rack. That way you don't char the surface while the interior stays cold.
The 'Bagel Best' setting is great for people who, like Sting, like their toast (or bagels) done on one side. It's a nifty feature, but the bottom line is that this toaster oven is limited to toasting and heating only certain kinds of foods. I would recommend it for people who want just a very basic toaster oven.
I want more versatility in a toaster oven these days, so I am shopping for a new one.

The oven selector allows you to use just the top rack, just the bottom rack, or both. It even has a Bagel Best option which activates just the middle heating element - and that means your cut side gets toasted while the exterior gets warm. With all these options you can bake, toast, and reheat or warm foods. The time also has a Bagel Best option, as well as timing for up to 15 minutes. Unlike toasters this unit can accommodate really thick breads and pastries, yet its small footprint won't take up more space than a toaster.

Black & Decker TROS1000 SpaceMaker Digital Toaster Oven Review

Black and Decker TROS1000 SpaceMaker Digital Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This item has been nicely updated. It now has a black and stainless steel look which just happens to match my updated kitchen. Also, capacity is larger than previously. On the down side, a tray is not provided; previous models included the proper size tray. Secondly, I am concerned about the door. It opens on one hinge to a "springy", unstable position; previous models had a hinge on both sides of the door which opened to a solid, firm position. The Spacemaker Oven no longer enters "Pause" mode when you open the door to check on your food; oblivious to the open door, it just keeps on cooking. Although the word "broil" appears nowhere on this unit, "Bake" mode can be set to broiling temperature, 450 degrees.
As you may have read elsewhere, installation of this unit can be quite a challenge. You can follow B&D's directions to a point, but after you place a washer over each of the four holes as directed I would suggest you follow these alternate directions (for Standard Installation): (1) Drop a screw through each washer, covering each of the 4 holes. There should be ample amount of screw protruding beneath your cabinet to allow for proper threading into the nut. Choose screws accordingly from the hardware bag provided. No need to search in the bag for the nuts. They are already implanted into the mounting hood. See them? (2) On the floor--or on a table that you can circumnavigate--attach the hood to the oven, NOT to the cabinet as the folks at B&D would have you do. (3) The half inch or so space between the top of the oven and the bottom of the hood must be maintained temporarily or else the hood might disengage in the rear. Therefore, insert a wash cloth into this space on each side of the unit. You may first want to fold them neatly in order to create a more snug, even fit. Leave part of each wash cloth hanging out of the space for ease of removal when the time comes. (4) At this point, if you are strong enough to lift the oven and screw it onto the bottom of your cabinet, go ahead and do so. Then skip down to step #6. If you aren't that strong--or, very wisely, just want to be cautious--we will need to put something on top of the counter, something that will prop up the oven to a few inches below the four hanging screws. For example, I used two pillows. I put the pillows on top of the counter and the oven, facing me, atop the pillows. Assuming that you arrange something similar, using pillows or whatever, the top of the hood should now be only a few inches below the four hanging screws. (5) Okay, this is it! You have your Phillips screwdriver, right? And may I assume that your cabinet doors are open? With one arm under the oven, probably your left if you're right-handed, you are going to raise the oven in order for the hood to make contact with the bottom of the screws. Meanwhile, your right hand, holding the screwdriver down in the screw of your choice, is eagerly waiting to screw. When you get one screw done it's like you've got a helping hand. Don't screw it all the way, though. Go to the next, then the next, then the last. Now screw them in more, evenly. Finally, tighten them up. (6) Now pull out the wash cloths. Under no circumstances are you to leave anything in that space. (7) I find that the unit looks better without the four little feet. If you agree, use your Phillips to unscrew them.
I hope I've helped you.

Preserve valuable counter space while still enjoying the benefits of a toaster oven with this convenient under-the-cabinet unit. The toaster oven not only saves on space, but it also offers simple operation with its touch-button control panel and LCD display. Choose from bake, toast, and keep-warm functions. The appliance's bake function offers an energy-efficient alternative to turning on the full-size oven, or it can be used in addition to the conventional oven when cooking for a crowd during the holidays or other special occasions. Use the toaster oven to bake anything from fish fillets, chocolate-chip cookies, and crescent rolls to potatoes, side dishes, frozen pizzas (fits a 9-inch pizza), and more. For toasting, its spacious interior will accommodate up to four slices of bread at a time, and the up/down arrows make it easy to select from seven different shade settings, from light to dark. In keep-warm mode, the toaster oven can maintain an ideal serving temperature of previously cooked food, without over cooking. The oven's user-friendly control panel also provides a 30-minute timer with a signal bell, the ability to increase or decrease the time and temperature, a start button with an "on" indicator light, and a cancel button for ending the session at any time. Other highlights include cord storage in the back of the unit for tucking away excess power cord when plugged in, a Save-A-Plug outlet receptacle to connect a smaller SpaceMaker appliance such as the SpaceMaker mini food processor/grinder or can opener, and a sleek modern design that will nicely compliment any kitchen decor. Step-by-step mounting instructions and a pre-sized mounting template come included for easy installation. The toaster oven measures approximately 18 by 11-2/5 by 10-3/5 inches.
