Cuisinart GG-12 GreenGourmet Eco-Friendly Nonstick Hard Anodized 12-Piece Cookware Set Review

Cuisinart GG-12 GreenGourmet Eco-Friendly Nonstick Hard Anodized 12-Piece Cookware Set
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have now been using this set for 6 months. When we first received and began using them, the pans were perfectly nonstick so that food including eggs could be cooked without any oil, and cleaning was fast and easy. Unfortunately this is no longer true -- the pan we've used most often now requires oil in order than food doesn't stick, despite hand-washing and following the manufacturer's other directions. If no oil is used, the pan is like a traditional pan and not only does food stick, but the pan requires prolonged soaking and scrubbing to get it clean. You must also be careful not to stack the pans (chipping and scratching).
The pan handles do not get hot, but the lid handles do, so be prepared to use a potholder to move the lids.
The set must be hand-washed and handled carefully to avoid chipping, but this is not a problem for us.
I would have rated the set 5 stars had it retained its nonstick performance. The loss of the nonstick capacity and the subsequent difficulty with cleaning the pans drops my rating to two stars.
1/3/10 Edited to add: We've now been using this set for a year and I've noticed several minute to small chips out of the cooking surfaces of more that half the pieces. We do not use metal utensils (silicon only) and are careful with cleaning and storing. One piece has also absorbed the smell of the food that was cooked in it. I am now looking for a different set of cookware, and regret buying this one. While I prefer a "green," eco-friendly product, I think this one needs some improvements in quality and design.

Get everything you need to cook up delicious, healthy meals for your family with this 12-piece set of Cuisinart Green Gourmet Hard Anodized Cookware. Cuisnart's new energy-efficient and eco-friendly Cermica nonstick surface more than just reduces your carbon footprint--this nonstick coating also allows for easy food release and the ability to use less fat while cooking as well as for use in the oven for browning. This 12-piece set includes an 8-inch skillet, 10-inch deep fry with cover, 1.5-quart saucepan with cover, 2.5-quart saucepan with cover, 3-quart everyday pan with cover, 6-quart Dutch Oven with cover, and a steamer insert that fits the 2.5-quart saucepan.
The pans deliver superior heat conductivity, requiring less energy to achieve the desired cooking temperature. Harder than stainless steel, the skillet's hard anodized exterior is dense, nonporous, and highly wear-resistant for extra durability and professional performance as well as quick and even heat distribution. Additionally, the securely riveted stay-cool steel handles are manufactured using 70 percent recycled stainless steel and is oven-safe to 500 degrees F, so food can be browned on the stovetop then transferred to the oven to finish cooking.
Cuisinart's GreenGourmet cookware is designed with an exclusive Cuisinart Ceramica nonstick surface, which features a petroleum-free, ceramic-based coating that is applied at a temperature one half that of traditional nonsticks. The coating does not contain PTFE and PFOA, substances often used in nonstick cookware that have raised health concerns over the years. It was also developed using manufacturing techniques that reduce harmful carbon emissions by consuming less energy. The coating is also water-based, unlike other nonstick coatings on the market, which are solvent-based. In addition, Cuisinart's cookware has a scratch-resistant nonstick surface that won't peel off. The new cookware conforms to FDA and European RoHS standards for environmentally sound products.
These pans should be hand-washed with a mild detergent, and they carry a limited lifetime warranty against defects. Cuisinart also gets some green cred from the packaging, which is made from 100 percent recycled materials and is printed using 100 percent biodegradable soy ink. --Agen G.N. Schmitz

This toaster only toasts one side of the bread. Was very slow
and instead of toasting just dried out the bread. Returned it.
I bought it on the strength of the name, but I was wrong. Very
poorly made and won't toast.

Fagor Stainless-Steel 2-Quart Double Boiler with Steamer Insert Review

Fagor Stainless-Steel 2-Quart Double Boiler with Steamer Insert
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a well-made, versatile, attractive, almost-"professional" set which, if you look around for sales, offers a good deal for the money (mine was from Macey's, special $39.95).
Although the bottom unit is heavy enough to function nicely as an independant 3 qt. stockpot, the top unit should definitely not be used over direct heat (my only complaint). And I think the well-made glass lid is always a plus over a solid one.
The upper unit and steamer both have 2 qt. capacities. This size is about right for all "double boiling" or for steamimng moderate amounts of food, but might be a little small if you want to steam vegetables, etc. for more than 2 to 3 people on a regular basis.

Best toaster oven I've ever owned and it matches my other stainless items perfectly. I cook everything in it for me & my mom. It's perfect for two. I don't know what else I can say except that I would recommend it to everyone. Like all heated items I pull it out from the wall when using just to be safe .. it does get hot.

Kalorik MW 26146 Steam Microwave Oven with Real Convection

I needed a new microwave and since I have limited space I liked that this oven served several purposes. I even waited a couple of months for it. I did try to find more info but found little on the internet and it wasn't available at a local store. My first impression when I opened it was how cheep it looked. The outside in mostly plastic. I worry each time I fill the water tank or empty the waste water tank that they will break and cost a fortune to replace. I haven't cleaned the steam generator yet but it requires decalcification every 20 uses and compartment is opening required a screwdriver. Cleaning instructions also direct cleaning 9 holes with a soft cloth & vinegar and I can't find the holes referred to. When I opened the door it scraped (I think the parts were not smooth finished). The controls are not intuitive and I find them difficult. The cooking instruction take up 19 pages. When I used the microwave function there was a annoying rattling noise. I contacted customer service via email and after suggesting several obvious causes they went to the warehouse to check and found it to be normal. When you microwave most things you are hit with steam when you open the door. Also the power is low so things take longer. I don't use the other items as often as I thought I would. It is just easier to do these functions the standard way. The convection function doest seem to save time. The inside cavity is not large and many item I use to use in the microwave I can no long use. The window is not as clear as the picture indicates. I would return it if I could. I will never buy another item online that costs this much without an unlimited satisfaction guarantee including shipping costs.

DeLonghi RO2058 6-Slice Convection Toaster Oven with Rotisserie
Average Reviews:

I owned a Delonghi before and it died of old age. I loved it and decided to get this one. 1. Description says it's red; it's black; 2. It only goes up to 390 degrees for baking; 3. The broiler pan doesn't sit on the rack; it has it's own slot. However, broiling time is greater than my last one; fat on steak never even sizzled. When you attempt to remove the broiling pan, as it isn't resting on anything, it tilts when you take it out and it could drop and injure someone, or if using a pot holder, it could catch fire; 4. I made toast and had to put it through twice and it burned part and the rest wasn't toasted. It is now being made in China and as with most things from there, it is very inferior. Too bad.

Not only do you get a useful 2-qt pan, but the porcelain insert can be used separately in the oven (not stove top)--although I'm not sure why you'd want to. The insert is thick and heavy and (most important) is smooth inside with no ridges; the support is a stainless steel band on the outside. The insert is big enough to accommodate most pudding/custard recipes. True, the insert is made in China for All-Clad, but the quality appears to be up to snuff.

This is a very well built grill that stands up to the harshest environments while in storage and performs above expectations during grilling. This grill is perfect for vending and catering because of the multiple configurations, attachments, and accessories that are available for use with this unit. My grill is currently mounted to a trailer for towing to major events and vending. Grill is so sturdy and solid you hear nothing rattling when being pulled down the road. Heats evenly and consistently throughout cooking. Takes 2 propane tanks that hang from the back of the unit. Recommendation, go to the Crown Verity website and view all of the other items that are made to be used with this unit. You will not be disappointed.

Black & Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven Review

Black and Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had B&D toaster ovens in the past and they've always held up well, so when it came for a new one I mostly dismissed the negative comments by others and purchsed this model. Well - unfortunately the negatives reviews are correct. Toast made on the bottom shelf ends up burnt where directly above the heating element, and untoasted elsewhere. But far worse was the rude awakening I received on the 2 month anniversary of my purchase. My attempt to toast a bagel appeared more like a 4th of July celebration when the unit completely shorted, providing me with a nice light show. And not that I'd have any inclination to use it again but it's now dead.
I tried to contact the B&D service number provided with the manual and lo and behold the documented late and weekend hours are no longer valid, so I guess I'll now be spending my work day negotiating for a new unit as opposed to someone else's "repaired" unit. If they're this bad when new I can't imagine what a refurb would be like. And I can't imagine what I'll be paying in shipping charges. BE FOREWARNED!

Perfect as a second oven or as an energy-efficient alternative to turning on the full-size oven, this countertop appliance offers a large capacity with an extra-deep curved interior that can fit a 12-inch pizza or a casserole. Use the oven for convection baking (a fan circulates the heat), as well as broiling, toasting, and keeping foods warm until they're ready to be served. The unit features a quartz heating element and 1500 watts of power to ensure fast, professional results, plus it comes with a reversible chrome-plated broiling rack with upper and lower rack slots for added versatility. Three user-friendly control knobs make the oven simple to operate. The top knob adjusts the temperature up to 450 degrees F, the middle knob selects the function (convection bake, broil, toast, or keep warm), and the bottom knob allows for setting the timer up to 60 minutes or choosing continuous "on", as well as selecting the shade setting when toasting bread or bagels. Other highlights include a Perfect Broil system that maintains the set temperature, a see-through glass door, a convenient "ready" signal bell, a nonstick interior, and a slide-out crumb tray for quick cleanup. A baking pan comes included. The sleek-looking toaster oven measures approximately 20 by 16-2/7 by 12-3/5 inches.

I was worried about ordering online and not being able to see the product in person. I was so surprised that it was so much better than I expected. I used it for canning and had a giant pressure cooker sitting on it. It performed perfectly and because it is so well made I expect that it will last me for years. Due to the fact the top area around the burner is metal you do not have to worry about a large pot extending out over the side of the burner and melting any plastic like other models on the internet. Well worth the price.

Waring Pro CO1500B Professional 1.5-Cubic-Foot Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you want a real counter top oven do not waste your money on a microwave, for healthy cooking, baking and eating a convection is the best.
This oven is everything I have been looking for; great capacity, convection, stainless steel interior, excellent price and good looks. It bakes, and browns and roasts, and broils. It is easy to use.
I just cannot get a properly made one, the oven seal fell off the first one and one of the racks was broken. So i sent it back for a replacement. Got the replacement and the convection fan is much loader than the first, sounds ready to break, the oven seal falls off again and the door is not flush, you can see the hot air leaks.
Back she goes, again.
....also Amazon informs me that they have heard of problems with this model and will not be replacing it a third time. So there you have it.
If you can get a good one (I still cannot vouch for its longevity); you may luck up.

Bought these last year and just love them. They are thin, so they heat quickly and easily. They are very smooth, so cleanup is also just great, even for burned on food. We cook salmon fillets in them and use them at least once every two weeks. I also bought some larger Corningware ovenware at the same time because I wanted larger sizes, but the Corningware is too thick and I hardly ever use them. That's why I'm ordering another set of the HIC porcelain au gratins. They are a wonderful, useful product.

Wilton Armetale Well and Tree Small Platter Review

Wilton Armetale Well and Tree Small Platter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
If you've never used a Well & Tree Platter, you are wise to read the reviews. It is very different from a other baking or roasting dishes. The well is an oval indentation in the platter that collects juices and fats that drain from the meat you are roasting on it. The tree carries those juices from beneath the meat to the well. The juices in the well can be used to rebaste the roast. I guess this platter is similar in design to a George Forman grill. It keeps your meat from just resting in fatty juices, by carrying them away to another part of the platter. This is also an attractive enough platter to use to serve as well - or you can have a fancier Well & Tree Platter for that.
I use this pan to: roast chickens; bake meatloaf; reheat pizza slices; cook steaks, chicken breasts, or burgers under the oven broiler; and carry out other random tasks when other platters are in the dishwasher.
My grandmother had a Well & Tree Platter and my mother now uses it. Not able to borrow my mother's every time I want to roast something, she gave me one. Somehow, my grandmother's will always be better in my mind, but this one does the trick.

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven Review

West Bend 74766 Countertop1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I wrote two reviews for this oven because I ended up purchasing it twice. The first one shocked me with its terrible functioning, but as of purchasing the second one, I have no complaints with its operation (thus far). I wonder if these ovens suffer from some quality control issues. In order, here are my reviews:
Review #1: This is quite possibly one of the worst appliances I have ever bought in my life and I seriously hope my model is simply defective.
(1) It entire oven itself shakes and buzzes. The vibrations are terrible.
(2) The glass door touches the front of the oven and makes a loud buzzing noise. If you push against the handle, it quiets down a bit, but it's still as loud as a hair dryer. Not a comforting noise, especially listening from another room. I would say it's like listening to a bathroom fan or a jackhammer (from 2 blocks away).
(3) The fan is noisy. It starts and stutters and makes noises as if it is hitting the metal enclosure inside. If you've ever run your finger against a fan to hear the whup-whup-whup noise it makes, then you know what it sounds like. Except it's against metal, which is more worrisome.
I was so excited when I bought it and now I'm just disgusted and sad instead. It was originally going to get 1 star because it cooked food as it was supposed to. I gave it another star for having options and features. But with an oven this noisy, it's not worth it. Especially if you're paying full price. I'm glad that I paid 1/3 of what it is listed at, at a Dept. Store. However, I nearly jumped out of my skin from fright when I started it and it is going back tomorrow.
Extra note: Is it operator-error or an imbalanced countertop? I pulled out the contractor's level to double-check. My counter top is perfectly level, it was not sitting on anything unbalanced, and it was not touching any other appliances. It's the oven.
Review #2: So being the ever-lasting optimist (or just someone who can't let a good deal go), I purchased another one. I noticed that one leg was shorter than the others, and created an imbalance, but decided to try it anyway. When I clicked the "on" switch and turned the dial to 400 degrees, I held my breath, stepped back, and cringed... but the fan turned on with a gentle and not unpleasant whir. This was markedly different than the last 74766 I purchased, which buzzed and rattled. So I conclude that perhaps it was just a quality control issue. But at the price these were originally sold at, I would have hoped there were no issues! However, now that the mechanical issues are out of the way, I can finally review the oven itself.
It starts up relatively quietly and works well, has several features, though I didn't see a rotisserie option - that is in a different model, but it broils, bakes, and toasts. It comes with a very handy metal pizza disc, and can accommodate up to 12" pizzas and a whole roaster chicken; mind you - not at the same time. It is a bit large but not more than any 1.7 cubic ft. microwave, plus, it's shorter. There is a removable tray at the bottom (pulls out at the front for cleaning) and it comes in stainless or black knobs. I like the auto-shutoff timer option, and prefer the old-fashioned knobs to a digital interface. The oven itself seems sturdy enough, and has a nice metal handle (not plastic like others). It cooked quickly and relatively quietly. I am looking forward to roasting chickens and prepping dishes without needing my regular oven. But I can guarantee that I will be watching this oven closely for mechanical defects, which I'm sad about. If you buy something, you hope not to worry about it breaking! Nevertheless, if you're not paying full price for this oven, it's worth a try. Just buy two ;)
